The list
Cloud, security,
and the craft.
Weighted towards the things that are expensive to get wrong: infrastructure, security posture, and testing discipline.
What it means in practice
Certified is the
floor, not the ceiling.
The value of the CISSP is not the badge — it is that I think about auth, data handling and blast radius before writing the feature, not after the incident.
Same with Kubernetes and AWS: they are the reason a deploy is a routine Tuesday rather than an event.
Where it shows up
- Auth and permissions designed before the first endpoint
- Secrets and PII handled properly, not in a config file
- Deploys that roll back cleanly when something is wrong
- Tests that catch the regression rather than the typo
